Layla Palmer at the Lettered Cottage and her husband have a great DIY home blog, you should check it out if you are into the cottage style decor.
She recently said “it’s a Pinterest world and we are just living in it” Which I find funny and very true.
If I could live in Pinterest this is where I would want to live.
In Sarah’s Home board. Yesterday she pinned this pin from my board.
I got an email notifying me that she did. Usually I just delete the email and move on but I decided to check her board and here is what I found.
WOW. She has great taste, I want that house, even if it is just a virtual house. I had to know more! Was she a designer or stylist? She didn’t have any info on Pinterest so I facebooked her, yes facebook can be a verb now. Luckily for me, she has a blog! Spoonful, cute name right! Especially because her last name is Spooner! So clever! And guess what she’s a nurse, so she’s caring and creative. She seems like a nice person and she takes great photos, check her out!
My other all time favorite Pinterest pinner is my sister Tracey, she is a Pinterest addict. She has over 3000 pins, see her broads.
My favorite of these is her Savory board for dinner recipes they are all easy peesy and mostly really healthy, it’s my go to when I need a dinner plan quick.
Have a happy weekend! Go Pin Something!
I took this video the other night before bed time. We give the girls their bedtime bottles on our bed then let them play a few minutes edited we put them in their cribs. Im sure the day will come when we will drink bottles and read stories on the couch all together but for now out bed is a good spot for this ritual. They are so cute at this time, relaxed after their bath, full from their bottles and excited to play in the soft linens and pillows of our bed.
Two years ago my husband and I said “I Do”. How do we already have two kids! Just lucky I guess. This past year has been a crazy one I was very pregnant on our anniversary and just a few months later our lives changed forever. When I think back now on our “plan” and how we were in such a hurry to have a baby, I laugh. We got married a littler later than some, I will be 34 this year and my husband is a few years older than me, and we believed that being younger parents gave you more energy, maybe. But we also learned that being a little older gives you more patience, good thing, we need it and we are learning that more and more these days. I wouldn’t change a moment of it for anything (except maybe the 10 hours of non productive labor). I love my husband and my family, I still can’t believe that we have two kids, I wonder what our lives will look like in a year, I’m excited for more adventures and surprises to come.
Happy Anniversary my love, we are doing good.
Yup it’s official big babies are crawling crawling, usually is opposite directions but every once in a while they will both lay eyes on the same thing and the baby race is on. Don’t get excited, I haven’t managed to catch it on video yet, but I will.
Talia is way better than Jordan, he learned first and is really fast, even in her pajamas. Jordan reminds me of someone walking on ice when she is trying to crawl across the wood in her pajamas.
Our little ladies are certainly becoming a handful, all along I thought “oh it will be easier when they can hold their heads up”, “oh it will be easier when they can hold their own bottle” (this one is true), it will be easier when they can sit up, it will be easier when they can crawl (yes both Talia and Jordan are now crawling. I promise this week I will get a baby race on camera and post it for you) but it is not any easier, IT’S EXHAUSTING! HA! but still a lot of fun. I know I have heard parents of toddlers and older children say it doesn’t get easier, whats hard is always changing, I tried not to believe them. I think for us, now that the girls are slightly more self sufficient, meaning we can leave them on the floor to play for about three minutes ( on a good day) before they realize we are gone and start crying, we are trying to finish our house! Our year anniversary of moving in will be next week, remember all that crazyness while I was six months-8 months pregnant? I hope to post pics of how the house has come along since the last updates here and here. Today we turned the rug so that is is now ten feet wide rather than ten feet long and put a pad under it, which would have been great in the last month when little babies would spontaneously fall over and hit their head on not much more than the hardwood floor. We also cleaned out our extra room that could have landed us a spot on Horders. Feels good to clean things and get organized. SO now that I have made a promise I will be working very hard this week on getting my house photos done and posted for you to see, so this week plan on a few baby pics but not much more.
I went to fashion design school, technically it was textile design school and merchandising school, I learned to sew there. I knew how to use a sewing machine before that because when I was a little girl my mom taught me how to use her 1978 Singer with which I would make scrunchies and sell them at school. And I admit, I also wore scrunchies, but hey it was the 80’s! OK, maybe the early 90’s but I was only a pre teen and Carrie Bradshaw wasn’t around to tell me how wrong it truly was. Fast forward 20 something years. I still love to sew, in college I made lots of going out tops and a few dresses and even a coat. And now thanks to the amazing Etsy I can sell my wares all over the world! This is much easier than walking around asking random people if they would like to buy your creation. It started a couple of years ago with number tees that label kids with their age. I haven’t sold a ton, but a few hear and there, enough to keep my sewing skills in check and satisfy my sewing bug. In the next few years I plan to make many many dresses and tops and shorts and anything else I can for my girls, check out my pinterest board I have plenty of projects to start on my things to make for my girls board. But f or now, time is limited so I fill the random Etsy order when I get one and keep my girls outfitted in their own personalized initial oneseis. If you havn’t heard of Etsy Please check it out, it is the most amazing online market place of crafters and artisit selling thier own handmade creations. All the sellers are supper friendly and will create custom items almost always. Its the best place to buy gifts for friends!
Here are their newborn ones
and here are their infant ones
up next #1’s! Say it ain’t so : (
Becky is one of my favorite mommy bloggers, she blogs about her Twin boys. I loved the screen shot of her text convo with her mom, so my mom. Love you mom and I know the babies are way more interesting to see than me.
I found this cute picture of kid art used to decorate over the crib. The girls are nearly nine months old and I still haven’t finished their nursery. I already have plans to redo the room for their toddler years. I want something for the wall over their bed, not their names and not another picture gallery like I have over the couch. Hmmm.
You know how sometimes when you think out loud you answer your own question, I just answered mine. Stay tuned…
Babies do the cutest things. On e they get to be 17 months or so parents can train their children to say something cute on command or make a hand gesture that makes all the grown ups in the vicinity laugh and smile. But before that year and half mark babies learn these cute little idiosyncrasies all on their own. It must be baby human nature. Here’s Talia and Jordan jut being babies. They don’t do anything so exciting, they are just playing. But I promise a video of a first is on its way.
Monday’s are my most challenging days for blogging. You’d think I could create some really great post for a Monday morning having had the whole weekend to work on it, but the truth is the weekends are my time to exhaust myself playing with and caring for my family. Every second of these two and a half days is precious time to me, and the last thing I want to do while I am sitting outside at the park or pool is be staring at my phone or iPad. I’ much rather stare at these pretty blue eyes!
The weekends are when I take most of the photos that I use in my posts and think about topics I want to write about, so I do work on them, I just prefer to save the actual writing part for the work week and then sit down and focus around 9:30 after the girls are asleep and dinner is cleaned up.
This is what’s called a photo dump, I promise it’s not as simple as it sounds, but it’s easier than writing a story filled with descriptive pictures. This is a bloggers easy way out. Its all the instagram pictures I have taken over the last month or so, and considering there are only sixteen, clearly I need to step it up on the instagram! I then take four pictures at a time and create mini collages on my phone using Diptic app. If you want to be the first to see these pictures as I post them you can follow me on instagram (iphone app) or online, username juliemara.
I love original art, I do not love the cost of original art. A good large piece is minimum $300 and the sky’s the limit. One of my favorite pieces of original art that I have ever seen is this photo. Its from a home we rented with friends in the mountains a few years back. I don’t know who it is by, but if I ever do find out and I can afford it at the time, I would love to own this piece of art. I love our white walls, but I love them as a back drop for some color. I can’t go and buy a few thousand dollars worth of framed art right now so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I found this magazine tear a long time ago, the brightly colored wall hanging on the right caught my eye in the otherwise neutral room. I knew one day I would recreate a version of it for our home. I wasn’t exactly in any condition to paint back then so I tucked it away for the day when my fingers felt better and I had time to take on such a task. A few months ago I finally had an evening, once the babies were fast a sleep, I poured myself a glass of wine and a bowl of red paint and I got to painting. Next I added the black then the yellow. It’s not an exact replica, but the art in the photo is actually a woven textile and the yellow has much more green in it than my version. But I am happy with my end result and it adds a nice pop of color to the wall for now. I can always change it out or paint over it later.
