Little moments, big changes

It really does just keep getting more fun. Talia and Jordan learn at the speed of light these days. Some of their new favorite things to do are “wash hands” after dinner. I save this activity for only after dinner because next is bath and since washing hands turns into soaked toddlers getting straight into bath rather than having to change outfits is just easier.

The girls are all about climbing these days. Pushing chairs around our great room to see what they can get access to. Like the kitchen island, the upper bookshelves and over the sides of the couch. Of course I am constantly worried that they will fall and get hurt and most of the time they do. I try to remind them that chairs are for sitting but the truth is kids climb and they will always climb and I really love that they have this sense of adventure. I just try to make sure that there are no sharp corners to fall on. I can deal with a bump, a cut, on the other hand gets me a little worked up.

There are a few other changes that have happened in the past month or so, the girls switched from liquid vitamin D, we have used poly-vi-sol since the girls were born, to chewable fruity multi vitamins, we get the whole foods 365 brand, plus a chewable fruity vitamin D3 supplement. The girls now sit in boosters at the table with us rather than in their high chairs. We still have the high chairs handy since we only have four dinning chairs we need them available when we have guests. And a new favorite activity is play dough! The girls will cut and mush and break the homemade play dough from this Pinterest link for a good twenty minutes before they get bored.

Winter cold and the sicknesses that have come with it are starting to get old. As the start of March approaches we are getting excited to spend more weekend days hiking on the great trails around our city. And being able to play on the deck in the mornings early hours before we head to work.

A Day at the Park

This past weekend we took a trip to the park near our house with my parents who were visiting from North Carolina and my niece and nephew who live here. It’s the same park where we took the girls swinging for the first few times.

But we haven’t been back since then because the playground is covered in wood chips.

While the girls were only crawling it was no big deal to hold them in the playground if they weren’t swinging, but when the started walking it wasn’t fair to expect them to be ok with NOT getting to run around, but they would just eat wood chips, so we didn’t go there. So for the past 6 months we’ve been mainly going to a great park about 20 minutes from our house that has AstroTurf and a sail shade on the playground.
Now at 15 months the girls don’t really put things in their mouth as much and even if the do, they don’t try to swallow things that don’t taste good. Brilliant children. So off to the wood chip covered park we went. It was so awesome. When I was there previously I didn’t even pay attention to the perfect toddler sized jungle gym along side the three story talk jungle gym for the bigger kids.

Talia and Jordan had the best time running up the ramp and choosing from four different slides to go down.

The cousins were such a huge help. Even though they are big kids they are still small enough to get inside the jungle gym and help Talia and Jordan navigate there way and make sure they didn’t get hurt.

There were steps to climb, small spaces to discover, and rails to reach for.

It’s a perfect park for tiny toddlers with swings and a separate playground for the big kids.

A thousand pictures

by Juliemara

I started going through the thousands of pictures I have taken over the last 15 months to select the ones that I will use to make their first year photo album. I’m up to September, so I’m almost ready to start editing through the 400+ pictures I have selected as my favorites to put in the book. While working on this daunting task I decided a few things , first, from now on I will choose my favorites from each month as I upload the pictures. Maybe not the same day, I may wait a few weeks since what I will want to remember may change or look different as some time has passed, but I certainly won’t wait until the end of the year to try and tackle 12 months at once again. Second, I want to remember their sweet changing faces and the small details. The first few curls, they way they play with each other so gently, when they learned to get on the couch – almost all by them selves. I want to remember to take the time to take pictures of the things I think about as I am falling asleep at night and am so thankful for having witnessed that day. These are a few recent images that will be in their second year photo album.

A video of the girls climbing or rolling down the stairs while chasing a toy. They love it and do it over and over all day.
